Saratoga County Airport building upgrade includes genuine Vermont slate

The Saratoga County Airport multi-million-dollar renovation project design included the installation of slate cladding. The genuine slate was sourced from Greenstone Slate and installed using the advanced Nu-lok slate installation system. Greenstone’s Vermont Gray Black was the primary slate color with green and purple slate added as accent colors. Titan Roofing of Springfield, MA, used the Nu-lok system to install the 16″x12″x1/4″ slates on the entire exterior.

Slate cladding, installed with the Nu-lok system, offers many benefits. These include the ability to withstand severe weather conditions, outstanding longevity and serviceability, and it contributes to energy efficiency through slate’s superior thermal characteristics (due to its high density). In addition, Nu-lok’s slate-on-a-grid system creates an air gap between the sheathing and cladding that reduces thermal transfer to the building, allows ventilation that prevents moisture accumulation and provides for individual slates to be easily removed for building access and maintenance.

Funding for the extensive renovation included $27 million from Governor Kathy Hochul’s Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition. Updates to the Saratoga County Airport included a new terminal, a 20,000-square-foot hangar, plus a restaurant, conference room and public space.
